Mushroom (?) that looks like a radish

Hi everyone, there's a restaurant near me (USA) that serves nabeyaki soup and always includes a large slice of red and white vegetable which I am pretty sure is a mushroom based on texture. The coloring makes it look like a radish but it's also bigger than any radish I e ever seen and it doesn't really taste like radish. I asked the server but she doesn't know what it's called in English. Any help identifying is would be appreciated. Thanks!
