Substitute for garam masala in japanese curry roux?

I'm trying to make curry from scratch but all of the curry roux recipes I've seen require garam masala.

I've tried looking up substitutes for garam masala, which gives me curry powder, but the recipes already call for curry powder.

Should I just add as much curry powder as the recipe calls for garam masala, or is there a substitute for garam masala?
