Can ramen eggs be cold?

At a North American ramen restaurant, the yolk of the egg in my ramen was cold. Like a cold drink of water. Also, it was not marinated.

Both facts seem off to me compared to expectations within Japan. But, I'm far from an expert having never been to Japan.

How would you or a regular customer in Japan react to this?
