Japanese speakers - I need your help with Togarashi
![]() |
Hello! I'm making a youtube video about how to make a particular condiment that is served at a popular Japanese restaurant. One of the ingredients is "shichimi togarashi" - which I know is a seven-spice blend popular in Japan. In one section of my video, I'm explaining the difference between "ichimi togarashi" and "shichimi togarashi" - I know ichimi is just the pepper and I know shichimi (nanami in the West) is the blend of seven spices. My question is what is the literal translation of "ichimi togarashi" and the literal translation of "shichimi togarashi". From my research, I believe "ichimi togarashi" is something like "one flavor red pepper" or "one ingredient red pepper" and "shichimi togarashi" is something like "seven flavor red pepper" or "seven ingredient red pepper". Can someone confirm for me, please? I don't want to get the information wrong in my video. Also, if anyone knows the Japanese characters for "ichimi togarashi" and "shichimi togarashi" - could you please let me know? I'd like to include them in my video, as well. Thank you so much for your help! I really love this subreddit and I've learned a lot from you all. Thanks again! [link] [comments] |
